Vinnie Santino - 'That's Him Officer!"

The tunes on this disc are the fruits of a very interesting concept. As the sub-title, "a collection of original TV cop show themes" suggests, Vinnie has taken the general vibe found in the opening credits to such classics as Adam 12 and Dragnet and composed music that could do the job just as well. He is aided and abetted by members of Royal Crown Revue and his lovely wife, Jacqueline, who blows a mean Trumpet. While this music isn't radically different than spy movie themes, there are subtle differences. I'm not sure I could pinpoint exactly what I'm driving at, but I find myself thinking of Leslie Neilson in Police Squad rather than any of those Bond chaps. There are tons of horns, tasty guitar work and a tight clean rhythm section keeping everything together. Snippets of various shows are interwoven into the fabric of these driving background grooves. This is the kind of stuff that makes watching a gumshoe drive from one unpromising lead to another seem exciting and/or tense. Spotless production.
